Study 19 – GREAT CALM THROUGH THE MASTER’S INTERVENTION
Text – Mark 4:35-41
“And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.” ….. “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:35,39). There will be peace in your life.
Those verses are seven: (i) Verse 35 – Passing over to the other side; (ii) Verse 36 – His Presence in the Ship. He will always be in your boat, family, heart and family; (iii) Verse 37 – The Peril of a Great Storm; (iv) Verse 38 – Their Perplexity about His Sleep – the storm was great and their lives in danger, yet he was asleep; (v) Verse 39 – The Power of our Saviour. No storm will withstand the power of our Saviour even tonight in your life in Jesus Name; (vi) Verse 40 – The Problem of their Shallowness – they had been with Him and He had given them assurance that the power of God will be with them, and they could have stopped the storm. Your faith will rise; and (vii) Verse 41 – The Perception of His Sovereignty. He rules the storms and the souls of men. This passage reveals both the Humanity and the Deity of Christ. The Humanity – He was tired and slept; His Deity – He rose up and with His own Authority as the Sovereign God, commanded the storm to cease. There will be divine intervention in your life, and as you attend this weekend Revival program, the Lord will do great things in every area of your life and family. Great calm the Lord will bring to the things that perplex and trouble you in your life and family, and that want to cut short your Christian journey, in Jesus Name. In our Church and our families, we will see the Lord’s intervention; His power, presence and promises will avail for you.
3 points:
Point 1. THE PERSONAL PROCLAMATION OF OUR INFALLIBLE CHRIST
Mark 4:35; 5:1; Matthew 24:35; Numbers 23:19-20; Deuteronomy 18:18; Acts 3:20-22; Isaiah 46:10-11; 55:10-11; Jeremiah 1:12; Ezekiel 12:25,28; Hebrews 13:5,6; 2 Peter 1:19-21
“Let us pass over unto the other side”, that was the proclamation of Christ, and no storm, Satan or devil that can contradict or make that to fail. Christ is Infallible, Irresistible and Incomparable. If He says anything in promise, with His presence and power, it will be fulfilled in our lives. ‘Let us pass over unto the other side’, this was the proclamation that Christ Himself made personally. “And they came over unto the other side of the sea” (Mark 5:1a). His word, promise to you, declarations and proclamations will always be fulfilled. If Christ has spoken, said it and announced it, it will come to pass. Satan and the world may be furious, His words to you will be fulfilled. Dazzling sights I see, terrifying sounds I hear, and all these sights and sounds may fill the horizons, all the same, the words of Christ will be fulfilled. Tempests raging, billows rising, demons threatening, torrents of anguish, heights of anxiety, depth of grief, winds and waves of wrath, all may shoot up their angry look, but all that Jesus Christ has said will be fulfilled. The winds and waves will obey His voice. Whatever He had said will come to pass. “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35). The sky may roll over, the earth may be in tumult, the sea may roar, challenges may come in your community or anywhere; but whatever Jesus had said must be fulfilled. Jesus and the Father are One. As the word of the Father is infallible and is always fulfilled so the word of Christ will always be fulfilled, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19). Jesus has spoken, the storm cannot reverse that. Whatever promise the Lord has given us in His word, no one can reverse it in your life. Your life will be exactly as Jesus has promised. Whatever Jesus said, the Father put it in His mouth, “I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him” (Deuteronomy 18:18). And that word will not fail. You will get to the other side and not remain on the side of weakness, confusion, powerlessness; you are going to move on to the side of victory as Jesus has decided and declared for your life in Jesus Name. “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: ….. I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it” (Isaiah 46:10,11b). The Lord is declaring the end from the beginning of your life that the outcome shall be victory, fulfilled destiny and joy at the end. The devil tried to use the waves and the winds to stand against Christ’s declaration, but Satan has failed, and he will always fail in your life, family and our Church in Jesus’ name. The pleasure of Jesus for His disciples was for them to get to the other side. He chose them to be fruitful and make progress, and nothing could hinder that. We will see, rejoice and fellowship together at the other side. Performance, calming of storms and great wonders in your life in Jesus’ Name. The word of Christ is the greatest thing in your life, not the contradictions of the enemy or opposition of Satan and the society. And it will crush and destroy every other thing that opposes in Jesus’ Name. “….for I will hasten my word to perform it” (Jeremiah 1:12). The Lord will hasten His word to perform it in your life. Forget your perplexity, doubts, unbelief, waves, and storms; Christ has spoken His promise into your life, family and the Church and it shall come to pass. Satan cannot delay the fulfilment of His word in your life; nothing will. (Ezekiel 12:25,28). Let your conversation be without covetousness, cowardice, conflict, fear, unbelief, harassment in your spirit; the Lord will never leave nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5,6). Christ is greater than your persecutions, oppositions, fears, storms, winds and all the things that want to stop your journey half-way. Everything Jesus said in His power and promise, He had sealed with His Blood. If His word before the Cross could not be contradicted, reversed and resisted, how much more after the Cross. “We have also a more sure word of prophecy” (2 Peter 1:19). And the Day Star will shine in your heart and life, and every darkness taken away. His word will be yea and amen in your life.
Point 2. HIS PERFECT PEACE IN AN IRRECONCILABLE CRISIS
Mark 4:36-39; Isaiah 9:6-7; John 14:27; Romans 14:17; Ephesians 2:14-17; Psalms 119:165; Isaiah 26:3-4; 48:18; Philippians 4:6-9; Romans 16:20
The crisis that rose up, you couldn’t reconcile that with what He had said. That the disciples could not understand why a storm rose up when Christ in authority and power had said let us go on to the other side. Irreconcilable and yet, the Lord is going to grant us perfect peace. “And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full” (Mark 4:37). How could Christ sleep in such a storm? Well, He slept on the strength and pillow of His words. He was the Creator of Lucifer, and storms, and if He said anything as the Lord and Master, it was done. So, all the water filling the boat was nothing to Him. How could He go to sleep? (1) His disciples had not become fishers of men at this time, and He was going to leave the work in their hands, and they are going to bring thousands into the kingdom, so they could not die. The storm you are facing is child’s play. It is a test, trial and temptation to see whether you will cry, give up and say that your end has come, but your end has not come. (2) He knew He would die on the Cross and not on the sea. He knew His destiny. When you know your destiny you will not be afraid. (3) “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” (Mark 4:38b). They wanted Him to be anxious and worried like them. You will not perish; He cares for you. (4) “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:39). He did not rebuke His disciples first for disturbing His sleep, but solved their problem first. Before He rebukes you for your shallowness and lack of faith, He will first solve your problems. And tonight, those problems are solved in Jesus’ name.
The crisis could not be reconciled with Christ’s plan, promise, purpose, and precept, and that was why they went to Him to express their anxiety. This is not the best pattern or model of prayer. It was a prayer of anxiety and worry. In your life, family, place of work, on the road, in the village and anywhere you go, ‘Peace be still’ in Jesus Name. In Him, by Him, through Him, there is peace; (i) Present Peace; (ii) Promised Peace; (iii) Priceless Peace; (iv) Prevailing Peace; (v) Perpetual Peace; (vi) Perfect Peace; and (vii) Surpassing Peace. There will be peace in your life if Jesus is in your boat, life, family, heart, home and Church, for He is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6-7). “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). Lord, I receive your peace. As you are in the kingdom no more fear in your heart, life, journey to heaven till the end in Jesus’ Name. He is our Peace, and has abolished and cleared out of the way all the enmity of Satan, the roaring lion, and anyone standing in the way of your progress; (Ephesians 2:14-17). “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them” (Psalms 119:165). Your mind and heart will not be disturbed, the word of Christ will supersede every other word that you hear and nothing will destroy your peace. The disciples were disturbed because they were looking at the storm but, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3). Trust in the Lord forever no matter the situation and condition of your life, and you will not be ashamed (Isaiah 26:4). “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6). Be worried about nothing, be disturbed by nothing and be anxious for nothing. Calmly, assuredly and without any shadow of doubt when any problem arises, go to the Lord like a son not like a slave nor an orphan, and don’t go with anxiety. Your Heavenly Father knows and cares for you as His sons and daughters. Make your prayers to God; don’t think of Satan and what your enemies are trying to do, but think on the words and promises of God (Philippians 4:8). “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your (my) feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen” (Romans 16:20).
