Study 6 – THE RESPONSIVE MINISTRIES OF THE BENEFICIARIES OF CHRIST’S HEALING

Text – Mark 1:29-39

In our passage tonight, you will see quite a lot concerning the healing ministry of Jesus, and the power that delivers and casts out devils. But we are looking as well into the response of the people that benefited from this healing ministry. He healed them all, the people that came to Him, and that same power is present today to heal and deliver from all devils. Then those beneficiaries of Christ’s healing power; what did they do to become beneficiaries of Christ’s power and how did they relate, response and reciprocate the love of Christ to them. They did something to show their appreciation to Christ’s healing power.

3 points:

Point 1. PERSONAL MINISTRY TO CHRIST IN PETER’S HOME

Mark 1:29-31

He went to Peter’s home, and the mother-in-law of Peter was sick with fever, and they came to tell Him. They did not say that He will know by Himself, so we learn that when we have a problem, we must tell the Lord and our leaders as well. They told the Lord and He healed her. And after that healing, she ministered unto them. Three things to consider here:

  1. The Astonishing Miracle of Christ – Mark 1:29-31; Matthew 8:14-15; Luke 4:38,39; John 4:46-53

You will see that the other Evangelists of the Gospel who recorded this event give us fuller details. “And he touched her hand and the fever left her” (Matthew 8:15). The touch of Jesus transmits power, virtue and that touch will come upon your life. Luke as a Physician gave a more detailed account. “And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever” (Luke 4:38). He tells us that this was not just ordinary fever but a great fever, and they besought Him for her. There are times when the sick do not have the strength, voice or ability to call upon the Lord, so we should be there to help them to call upon Him for their healing and deliverance. “And he stood over her…” (Luke 4:39). You know that the way you stand in authority, power and courage can tell whether you have confidence or are fearful, or are sure or what you are going to do in that circumstance. Or you can stand in the way that people will know that you lack the confidence or control over that problem. “….and rebuked the fever” (Luke 4:39). He rebuked the fever, not just touch or lift her up. You cannot rebuke an inanimate object that does not have any life and power, you can only rebuke something that has a spirit, life, and will, behind it. Jesus recognized the fever has a spirit, personality behind it, and the fever left her. An inanimate object cannot leave, but whatever was behind that fever everything now left her and she ministered to them. Whatever is behind your problem, mountain, challenges, sickness, that thing will leave. Another case of sickness. “When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death” (John 4:47). This son of the nobleman had fever too, and was at the point of death. Not all fevers are ordinary and will respond to ordinary medication; some fevers can be terrible and affect every other part of the body and can lead to death. That fever will not kill you, no matter its name; typhoid fever will vanish away in Jesus’ name. “Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth” (John 4:50). In this case, Jesus did not rebuke the fever nor go to touch the son, He just spoke the word of faith and power. The boy was healed instantly at the Word of Jesus. He has many methods, so don’t be looking in just one direction or method of receiving your healing. The Lord is telling you tonight, go home and your problems are solved. What you see or hear in the Bible Study is exactly what you will see and experience after the Bible Study (John 4:50,51). Your testimony will match the teaching and the declaration of the word of God in Jesus’ Name.

“So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house” (John 4:53). You will see that instead of going his way after receiving the miracle, the father of the boy came to believe in Christ Jesus with his family.

  1. The Appreciative Ministering to Christ – Mark 1:31; Luke 8:1-3; Acts 28:8-10

“…and she ministered unto them” (Mark 1:31). When God has done something for you, you must minister back to Him to show appreciation for what He has done. “And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance” (Luke 8:2,3). He had healed, delivered, and liberated them and they ministered unto Him of their substance. This is what we ought to do as we see what the Lord has done for us, we minister unto Him of our substance and all that we have. While Jesus was on earth He healed people of their fevers and diseases, and He passed the power to His disciples. Now after the Cross and Pentecost, at the time of the Apostles, they still healed people of their fever (Acts 28:8-9). And today if you have any fever or any other challenge, you are healed in Jesus Name. “Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary” (Acts 28:10). Even the Gentiles showed appreciation to the Apostles for the healings they received.

  1. Angels’ ministry to Christ – Matthew 4:11; Luke 22:44-46,41-43; Hebrews 1:14,13.

“Then the devil leaveth him and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” Angels were at hand to minister to Christ. At the time of His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, the disciples failed Him, they could not watch or pray with Him, and the angels came to minister unto Him, “And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him” (Luke 22:43). Jesus did not lack being ministered to: men, women and even angels ministered to Him while He was here on earth. When men fail you and you lack help, the Lord will come to your assistance and angels will come and minister to you. “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14). You might not see angels but they will minister to you and conquer all your enemies, they will strengthen and encourage, you will experience empowerment through their ministration in Jesus Name.

Point 2. THE POWERFUL MANIFESTATION BY CHRIST OF THE PROMISED HEALING

Mark 1:32-34; Matthew 8:16

Actually the healing had been prophesied back in the Old Testament and Jesus came to fulfil all those prophesies and He manifested the power in line with the Word that had been written before He came. “And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. And all the city was gathered together at the door. ” (Mark 1:32,33). You will see that Jesus could not go to all their houses but they brought to Him all that were diseased and possessed of the devils. The people brought the afflicted; so we are to bring the sick, dumb, paralytic, people having challenges of evil spirits and sickness to the forthcoming Power Night and you will see miracles, for God is going to visit us mightily. “And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him” (Mark 1:34). Jesus healed many, and He has not changed, so He is going to heal many today in Jesus’ Name. “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses” (Matthew 8:17).  3 things to consider here:

  1. The Prophecy of Healing – Matthew 8:17; Isaiah 53:4,5; 1 Peter 2:21-24

The prophecy of the word of God must be fulfilled in your life and family. “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:4-5). Jesus went through all this for our salvation, and pardon for sins “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: BY WHOSE STRIPES YE WERE HEALED.” (1 Peter 2:24). By His stripes you are healed. It will be fulfilled in all our lives.

  1. The Power for Healing – Acts 10:38; Matthew 15:30,31; Luke 5:15-17

All that Jesus did when He was on earth, healing and liberating the people is summarized here, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him” (Acts 10:38). He did all in the power of the Holy Ghost. He will heal you. “But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities” (Luke 5:15). Firstly, the people came to hear the word of God that brings salvation, peace with God and transformation, and then to be healed of their infirmities, “…..and the power of the Lord was present to heal them” (Luke 5:17). That power is present here today to heal you.

  1. The Plurality of Healing – Luke 4:18, Psalms 41:4; 147:3-5; Proverbs 4:20-22; Jeremiah 3:22

“…..he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted…” (Luke 4:18). The brokenhearted, not broken bones, disease, plague or sickness but the heart that is broken, filled with sorrow, overwhelmed with anxiety, fears and tears; but Jesus will heal your broken heart. “….heal my soul” (Psalms 41:4). Likewise there is healing for the soul. If your soul is weak, discouraged and appears hopeless, it needs healing. Christ’s healing is not only for those who are sick, diseased or plagued. If the guilt and condemnation is so overwhelming that you don’t know what to do, the Lord will heal your soul. And when you have been wounded in your heart as a result of the unexpected arrow of the enemy thrown at you, the Lord can bind and heal that wounded heart (Psalms 147:3). “….and I will heal your backslidings” (Jeremiah 3:22). That perpetual and habitual backsliding and going astray, the Lord is able to heal you of it.

Point 3. THE PRACTICAL MODEL OF CHRIST IN PROGRESSIVE HARVESTING

Mark 1:35-39

They wanted Him to stay in one place because many people were seeking Him there, but He said they must go to other places, as they need to progress in the harvesting of souls into the Kingdom. He would not be tied down to one place. You will go to the next level in your spiritual life, family, profession, understanding and ministry in Jesus’ Name. Three things to consider here;

  1. The Prayer Model of the Master – Mark 1:35; Psalms 5:3; Luke 6:12-13; 18:1-8; Philippians 4:6-9

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed” (Mark 1:35). This is a model for us in prayer. If Jesus Christ the Son of God, Messiah and Saviour could pray and still depend on the power and strength of the Father, much more, we as Christians today. It is a challenge and encouragement for us. “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up” (Psalms 5:3). Before you face the challenges of the day and those various things that come to you, early in the morning, spend time with the Lord and pray. “And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God” (Luke 6:12). He went into the mountain to pray not because there was anything special with the mountains, but because there was where He could find some solitude, quietness and freedom to pray so that the people will not disturb. He spent all night in prayer because He was going to take a great decision on the appointment of the twelve disciples to work with Him. If you are going to take a great decision in life – where to live, marriage, business partner or travelling out – you need to wait on the Lord and pray. In many challenges, unresolved problems and crossroads in life, “…….men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1). We need to persevere and persist in prayers by our continual coming unto the Lord. The Lord will find faith in you in Jesus’ Name. Don’t give up on that problem, the Lord will answer your prayer. No more murmuring, regrets and crying, only prayer. “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6). Once you have prayed, be at rest with the Lord. Nothing will happen that will destroy your life, family and project in Jesus’ Name. Don’t think on the problem or the pressure from the world, but think on the word of God.

  1. The Purposeful Moves of the Master – Mark 1:36-38; Luke 4:42,43; 1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9

Christ moved with purpose, he had something to do, “And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth” (Mark 1:38). You will move on higher and further and not be stagnant nor stay in one place in any area of your life and ministry in Jesus’ Name. “….for therefore am I sent” (Luke 4:43). You must know why you are sent into this world. For Christ, some people had been saved, healed and delivered where He ministered and yet He must move on because there were others as well who needed that same salvation and deliverance for which purpose He came. That is why we must move on too because for all men to be saved are not in the same place, congregation or city. We must move to other places and give all the opportunity to hear and come to repentance. (1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9).

  1. The Practical Mandate from the Master – Mark 1:39; Matthew 10:6-8; 24:4-14; Mark 16:15-20

He went throughout all Galilee and in their synagogues without leaving any place untouched, “And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils” (Mark 1:39). And this is the mandate that He has given to us His disciples that we go throughout our Countries, Regions, States, Local Government, Communities and towns to preach the gospel to all men. Even in difficult times, we must still preach the gospel of the kingdom, “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Matthew 24:14). Nothing will touch or disturb your life and you will not be afraid, for the Lord will work with you, and as you go, signs shall follow your ministration. Many will get saved through you in Jesus’ name. “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:15-18). Your anointed hands will bring healing and deliverance to the people that you preach to. “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen” (Mark 16:20). Let that amen be fulfilled in your life.
